About the author

director and novelist, lives in London. North of the world is his first novel translated into French.

Abstract

We are in Siberia, in a post-apocalyptic world, where the sheriff is Makepiece a small town in ruins, abandoned by humans. She tries to survive in this desperate world, until a plane crosses the sky, a sign of hope. Human civilization may have a better life elsewhere?

Felt

The fact of not knowing exactly what happened to it is found in Siberia, where cold is deadly space almost desert, it can be a bit annoying. And then you get used to. Basically, it does not matter.

For some reason, parents of Makepiece believed that exile to Siberia was a chance to start anew, and unfortunately, race is dying down. The Makepiece character is original, since it is clearly a survivor whom we know very little at first. A woman who has always lived here, who dreams of ancient civilization, that where are her parents, who thinks that this civilization was better.

The world described is cruel, cold, full of evil and despair, and the author succeeds very well to make us well. One imagines the perfect land desolate, abandoned cities, and this arctic landscape.

Merry, this novel is not, since it tells the story of a desperate woman, in a world where we do not want to live. Yet we allow ourselves to take the game very quickly of the author in this beautiful novel.
